The LT-316 provides 16-channel capacity, channel scanning, squelch, and CTCSS/DCS signaling. CTCSS/DCS can filter unwanted received traffic when compatible settings are used, but it does not encrypt conversations or make a shared channel private.

Communicate with VOX
VOX allows voice-activated transmission when properly configured. A Time-Out Timer limits extended transmissions, while the low-battery alert tells the user when the radio needs charging.
